Airbnb, a globally popular platform for renting vacation homes, was facing a challenge in providing a smooth, seamless user experience across all devices. Users were often overwhelmed by the large number of options available, and the booking process lacked clarity, especially for new users. Additionally, Airbnb wanted to create a more personalized experience for its guests and hosts while also accommodating an ever-growing user base.
To begin, I conducted a thorough competitive analysis of Airbnb’s competitors and identified key user pain points through analytics, heatmaps, and direct user interviews. Users wanted more personalized recommendations and a more streamlined booking process. They also desired clearer communication from hosts and better filtering options when searching for properties. Through this, I gained insights that would shape the design.
I worked closely with the product and development teams to create user personas, ensuring we met the needs of both hosts and guests. Iterating on wireframes and prototypes, we tested various solutions to simplify the user flow, enhance the aesthetic, and make the platform easier to navigate.
